i think that spring has finally sprung!! the past few days have been simply beautiful, so i decided to spend the other day in central park. the warm weather certainly brings out the freaks, shady ladies, and overall free spirits....but the beautiful thing about central park is the diverse crowd that congregates in the same place. i have never seen a pair of nikes like these, but i suppose this dude broke out his best spring footwear to celebrate the occassion.

as i walk around the city i cannot help but doing so with my head tileted upward. i spend a great deal of my time studying the details of the buildings that litter the landscape. i have come to realize that the building in nyc each have their own unique story and personality, and are as diverse as the people that inhabit their spaces. sometimes i find that the buildings of nyc make for the best abstract photos.

whenever i have passed through union station in dc, i have been in a hurry. i have never, until this past visit, taken the time to observe the amazing architecture that comprises union station. i was quite amazed by the amazing geometric patterns and overwhelming sense of beauty. i have been pretty busy lately, and i hadn' even noticed that today was my 200th post. big thanks to mal for reminding me :) hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoys the beautiful weather.

although they are two vastly different cities, i have noticed that dc and nyc have a shared characteristic. it is remarkable to notice the extent to which the cities' inhabitants will go to in order to protest on behalf of that which they believe. this guy was standing in front of the supreme court with three other people. since it was early on a sunday morning, the streets were empty and the supreme court was closed. yet the lack of "attention" did not prevent these people from protesting against abortion. they stood like statues, with red tape over their mouths and bibles in their hands, for hours on end. initally i was not certain as to why they would protest on a day when the court was closed, but in the end i came to realize that perhaps they were out there for themselves and their personal beliefs.

i have not visited every city in the united states. however, washington d.c. is the only city, aside from nyc, in which i would choose to live. i spent a weekend in dc recently, and my time there reconfirmed my love of that city. while walking around, i noticed this little guy sitting in front of the halls of justice. he looked ever so small and quite pensive. i couldn't help but wondering what was weighing so heavy on his little mind. i also was struck by the fact that this little guy chose the supreme court as his place of reflection.

i spotted this headless business man while walking around in soho. i found the pose to be very humorous, and couldn't resist a shot. it has been a while since i have been able to post a shot. one day, several weeks ago, i was sitting at my laptop while drinking a cup of coffee. the phone rang, and when i got up to answer it, i knocked over a 20 oz. cup of coffee onto my laptop. needless to say, my laptop was dead. i nearly had a stroke. i turned my laptop upside down to let it drain, hoping upon hopes that it would turn on in the morning. my hopes were dashed when i was unable to press down the power button (apparently when the sugar dried it caused all of the keys to stick). i was miserable for about four days. my misery was compounded when, after speaking with apple, i was informed that apple does not cover accidental spills of acts of God. after a few days, i regained my senses, and i remembered that i had purchased an additional insurance policy outside of apple. i called them, shipped my laptop to them, and after a lengthy diagnostic process, my computer was declared deceased. however, the good news was that the insurance policy covered the cost of my computer, and just yesterday, i received my brand new laptop :D so, i am back!!! i have missed reading everyone's comments and checking out everyone's work. i am looking forward to getting caught up with everyone!

it has been freezing in nyc over the past two weeks. although the wind was whipping as i was walking down 44th street, i had to stop and take a picture of this sampler sandwich. i snapped the photo so quickly, in order to keep moving, that i hadn't noticed the contrast between the sample sale of "designer products" and the immigrant entrance. i am happy to be back. i had to take a bit of a hiatus from posting. the past few weeks have been really hectic, and then to top it off my external hard drive (with all of my archives) went into a coma. i nearly had a stroke, but thankfully life support enabled the hard drive to sustain life long enough for me to transfer the majority of my photos. thanks to everyone who dropped a line to say hello and check in. looking forward to catching up with everyone. if you like what you see here on this site, vote for pixelthis. if you have a moment, please take the time to rate my photos. policy of subster

after a rain storm on city island, the fog rolled in and made for a pretty eerie setting. i took this shot on the bank of the long island sound, and the bridge, that separates city island from the mainland, can hardly be seen through the fog. i hope everyone has a great week and a great start to the new year. thanks to everyone who has taken the time to stop by and leave feedback. i really appreciate the honest assessment of my work. if you like what you see here on this site, vote for pixelthis. if you have a moment, please take the time to rate my photos. policy of subster

street vendors have tried, for ages, to dodge the city's regulations and ordinaces that govern street vending. in order to sidestep the city's regulations, vendors have become incresingly creative and mobile when setting up their "shop." the ideal "shop" is one that draws the attention of the pedestrians while remaining out of view of the cops. however, the most important characteristic of a street shop is its mobility...shops must have the ability to be broken down in a matter of seconds in order to avoid confiscation of ones goods or fines by the nypd. i snapped this shot while driving south on broadway. this is one of the best "shops" in terms of meeting the aforementioned criteria. i hope everyone has a great week and a great start to the new year. thanks to everyone who has taken the time to stop by and leave feedback. i really appreciate the honest assessment of my work. if you like what you see here on this site, vote for pixelthis. if you have a moment, please take the time to rate my photos. policy of subster

james brown, the godfather of soul, passed away last week, and in order to allow his fans to pay their respects to him, brown's body was on view at the legendary apollo theater in harlem. people stood in line for up to six hours to pay their last respects to brown. however, at around 9 pm, nypd suddenly shut down the theater and began shooing people away. there were several hundred people who had stood in line for more than three hours who, as a result of nypd's actions, were not permitted to view the body. at this point emotions were running kind of high, and some words were exchanged between agitated people and the nypd. i simply took that as my signal to get out of there quick and in a hurry. i hope everyone has a great week and a great start to the new year. thanks to everyone who has taken the time to stop by and leave feedback. i really appreciate the honest assessment of my work. if you like what you see here on this site, vote for pixelthis. if you have a moment, please take the time to rate my photos. policy of subster
